About Will Zipf
William Zipf (Will) is a husband of 25 years and the father of two adult children. Will is currently employed in the energy industry and currently serves in the role of National Ambassador for Fresh Hope. Will also holds a master’s in biblical studies from Redemption Seminary and will begin a Doctor of Theology in Biblical studies at Kairos university later this year.
Within Will’s family, mental health issues have been lifelong challenges. Will has seen first-hand how both the public at large and the Christian community misunderstand the very reality of mental health issues. Will has watched as both friends and family, both those with diagnosis and their loved ones, have been hurt through well-meaning but misguided Christian beliefs.

Message for the Church, how to think and act Biblically towards those who struggle with mental illness
Like most other illnesses, such as diabetes and epilepsy, the Bible offers no specifics on mental illness. Unlike those other illnesses, many theologians construct a theological division for mental illness that instructs Christians to treat mental illness different, replacing compassion with fear and suspicion.
In this presentation we will take a high-level look at this issue, briefly review these theologies of division, and offer an alternative. One that instructs Christians to treat mental health as they would any other health issues. I hope also to provide simple examples on how to serve with compassion, in a true biblical sense.
