En la primera mitad de cada reuni\u00f3n de Fresh Hope, los seres queridos participan en las reuniones del grupo Fresh Hope. Mi esposa y yo hemos estado asistiendo a las reuniones de Fresh Hope. Llevamos 39 a\u00f1os casados y a ella se le diagnostic\u00f3 por primera vez trastorno bipolar hace aproximadamente 30 a\u00f1os. Como la mayor\u00eda de los c\u00f3nyuges, no ten\u00eda ni idea de c\u00f3mo reaccionar ante las muchas complicaciones de esta enfermedad mental. Todav\u00eda sigo luchando con esto. \u00bfSon mis respuestas demasiado duras o no lo suficientemente duras? \u00bfDejo pasar las cosas porque ella tiene la enfermedad? \u00bfLa estoy apoyando de una manera apropiada que la est\u00e1 ayudando o estoy obstaculizando su recuperaci\u00f3n?<\/p>

Nadie tiene todas las respuestas, sin embargo, el grupo de Fresh Hope me ha ayudado inmensamente. Escuchar a los afectados por los trastornos del estado de \u00e1nimo y c\u00f3mo sus familias interact\u00faan (o no interact\u00faan) con ellos, y o\u00edr sus sentimientos me ha abierto los ojos. Adem\u00e1s, compartir experiencias con otros \"seres queridos\" y escuchar lo que ha funcionado y lo que no, no tiene precio. Desafortunadamente, no muchos c\u00f3nyuges o parejas asisten a las reuniones de los martes por la noche.<\/p>

Although the primary focus is (and should be) on providing hope to those affected with mood disorders, I would like to invite the spouses, partners, family and friends to come to one of our meetings. At the beginning of the meeting, after an opening prayer, we all read the tenants of Fresh Hope. One of the main themes is that of privacy and confidentiality. There is usually a topic presented by Pastor Brad or the facilitator for the evening. If the group is big enough, we will then break up into groups. Normally this would include one group consisting of the people that have been diagnosed with one of the mood disorders and another group including loved ones. When there is not enough to divide, we will all stay as one group.<\/p>

He encontrado ambas situaciones muy \u00fatiles. Escuchar c\u00f3mo otros familiares han reaccionado o se han enfrentado a la enfermedad de sus seres queridos me ha ayudado a comprender y espero poder compartir mis experiencias e ideas para ayudarles.<\/p>

Escribo esta carta por un par de razones. La primera es ego\u00edsta, ya que s\u00e9 que puedo aprender de las experiencias de los dem\u00e1s. La segunda es que varios del grupo han mencionado que no sienten que sus c\u00f3nyuges entiendan su enfermedad mental y no les apoyan. En algunos casos, cuando se les pregunta si han hablado de ello con ellos, dicen que no lo hacen. Consideran que el c\u00f3nyuge deber\u00eda saber lo que necesitan de ellos. Algunos de ellos incluso nos dicen que no quieren que sus c\u00f3nyuges vengan, ya que sienten que este es su lugar especial. Solo puedo decir que este grupo nos ha ayudado enormemente a Cathy y a m\u00ed, y espero que nos den una oportunidad y quiz\u00e1s encuentren la esperanza, el apoyo y la amistad que nosotros tenemos. Despu\u00e9s de todo, la enfermedad mental de un miembro de la familia afecta a toda la familia y todos necesitamos tener esperanza.<\/p>
